Learn about MyLab and Mastering.

Publishers customize MyLab and Mastering courses. Your course might include any of the following features.

Intuitive course design

Arranging the course menu and adding new content is intuitive and quick in the MyLab and Mastering courses. Streamlined steps let you arrange, add, and remove menu items. You can hide menu items from your students, or remove and archive them for later use in your course. To differentiate course sections, you can style each section, selecting a color for the course menu and banner.

Enhanced Announcements page with social media features

Note: Not all courses provide the enhanced Announcements page.

Some MyLab and Mastering courses provide an enhanced Announcements page with social media features for richer interactions between you, your students, and their classmates. If your course incorporates social media features, you and your students can share your personal profiles, find out who’s online, and chat with each other. You can view the latest activity in your course—remarks from your students, discussion postings, upcoming assignments for the next 7 days, and submissions for you to grade. These interactions between you, your students, and their classmates build a supportive community where learning thrives.

Course scheduler

Note: Not all courses provide the course scheduler.

In courses with the enhanced Announcements page, you can assign due dates for any menu item in your course. The due dates you set appear in your students’ list of upcoming assignments for the next 7 days.

Submissions

Note: Not all courses support submissions.

Some MyLab and Mastering courses provide a central location for submissions. In these courses, you can set up assignments as submissions. Students upload the assignment. You retrieve it, grade and comment, then return it. When students upload a submission, it is added to your list of submissions for review—on your enhanced Announcements page.

Assessment authoring

Note: Not all courses use the MyLab and Mastering assessments. Some disciplines provide their own assessment and assignment tools.

MyLab and Mastering courses can include assessments you create, customize and schedule. Assessment items include true/false, multiple choice, short answer, essay, fill-in-the-blank, and matching questions. You can add, edit, reorder, and delete questions, and you can set up randomized question pools. You can also import assessments from TestGen® and Respondus®.

Student user ID and status in the course roster

Although student user IDs are not listed in the course roster, you can now view them by moving your mouse over your students’ names in the course roster. In this way, you can provide students with their user IDs if they have forgotten them.

If your course allows temporary access, you can also see which students have temporary access to your course. Students with temporary access have 17 days to complete the payment process to continue using the course. Students who do not complete the payment process within the 17 days become inactive in your course. You cannot change their status to active, but their status automatically changes to active once they complete the payment process.

Course content updates

If your publisher has updated the content for your MyLab and Mastering course, the course displays with a New Updates Available link. If you click the link, a list of updates displays with instructions for updating your course.
